Problem Solving

Summit of the minds: Analytical thinking meets creativity

"A problem well put is half solved."  John Dewey

Forceful strategies to fix a problem

Problems – we all have them, nobody likes them. Wouldn’t it be great to have some effective and easy-to-apply strategies to deal better with problems? The choice of an appropriate strategy depends largely on the unique situation. In fact, there are many different problem solving processes.

What is problem solving?

Problem solving is a mental process that involves exploring and analyzing a particular issue, developing strategies, and organizing skills and knowledge in order to overcome obstacles and to find viable solutions that best resolve the problem.

How to become a problem solver?

Solving problems in an effective manner involves both analytical and creative skills. Which particular skills are needed will vary, depending on the problem and your role in an organization. The following skills are keys to problem solving:

  • Analytical abilities

  • Logical reasoning

  • Lateral thinking

  • Initiative

  • Persistence

Analytical and critical thinking skills help you to evaluate the problem and then to make reasonable decisions.

A logical and methodical approach is best in some circumstances: e.g., if you need to identify solutions of a practical or technical nature.

In other situations, using creativity or lateral thinking will be necessary to come up with ideas for resolving the problem and find fresh approaches.

Not everyone has these two types of skills in equal measure: for this reason, team working is often a key component in problem solving. Further skills, such as communication, persuasion and negotiation are important in finding solutions to problems involving people.

As a specialist for communication and thinking skills, Ansus Consulting provides easy ready-to-use techniques to foster both analytical and creative abilities, which facilitate your way to success. Skills can be imparted in intensive individual coaching sessions as well as in group seminars.
